ਰਾਮੁ ਗਇਓ ਰਾਵਨੁ ਗਇਓ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਬਹੁ ਪਰਵਾਰੁ ॥
Raam Chand passed away, as did Raavan, even though he had lots of relatives. Says Nanak, nothing lasts forever; the world is like a dream.

ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰਮਾ ॥
Whatever pleases You is a pure action of karma

ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਖੁਲਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਹਿਆ ਪੜਦਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
When good karma dawns, the wall of doubt is torn down. He lovingly accepts the Guru's Will

ਕਰਿ ਪਟੰਬੁ ਗਲੀ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਵਸਿ ਸੰਸਾ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਵਸਿਤਾ ॥
Practicing hypocrisy and attaching your mind to worldly objects, your doubt shall never depart

ਤੀਰਥ ਵਰਤ ਲਖ ਸੰਜਮਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
The merits of pilgrimages, fasts and hundreds of thousands of techniques of austere self-discipline are found in the dust of the feet of the Holy.

ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਹੋਹਿ ਜਬ ਰਾਖੇ ਕਮਲੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਮਧੁ ਆਸ੍ਰਮਾਈ ॥੨॥
When chanting, austere meditation and self-discipline become your protectors, then the lotus blossoms forth, and the honey trickles out. ||2||

ਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕੀਤਾ ਰਹਸੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੀਅੜੇ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਵਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Only the good deeds which you have done shall remain with you, O my soul. This opportunity shall not come again! ||1||Pause||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਨਿਸੰਗੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਈਐ ॥
erve the True Guru fearlessly, and your doubt shall be dispelled.

ਤਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਜਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥ ਲੋਭੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
The world is burning in the fire of desire, In greed, arrogance and excessive ego.

ਖਿਮਾ ਗਹੀ ਬ੍ਰਤੁ ਸੀਲ ਸੰਤੋਖੰ ॥
To practice forgiveness is the true fast, good conduct and contentment.
